BitGo, the largest independent digital asset custodian with over xx Bn in secured assets, has partnered with Silence Laboratories to upgrade its custody wallet infrastructure. BitGo utilises Silence’s key management product, Silent Shard, across both its hot and cold custody wallet solutions.

Silent Shard MPC libraries are built on the DKLs23 framework which offers the lowest latency for multiparty ECDSA signing. Utilizing Oblivious Transfer, DKLS23 minimizes trust assumptions and enhances computational efficiency as compared to traditional protocols.

The Silent Shard libraries are being used by BitGo in a variety of configurations including those where shards are hosted in custom HSMs, end user (client) devices and secure cloud enclaves (TEEs) hosted by BitGo or an independent recovery agent. The solution is completely on-prem for BitGo ensuring key material as well as  key generation or signature processes never involves Silence infrastructure.

Silence’s libraries come with additional features such as pre-sign processing (to improve latency) , signature reveal (to ensure auditability) and cryptographically secure migration. All of which are important for enterprise grade solutions offered by BitGo.

"The quality of Silence’s cryptography team as well as the flexibility of their libraries were key factors in our choice of making them our long term partners. For a global custody player like BitGo serving 1000s of varied institutional clients it is imperative to have a partner that has the flexibility in their technology and support to cover all the business and compliance requirements at scale. And that is where Silence’s team and solution really shone through."
