Preparing financial infrastructure for quantum-era security involves decisions across the entire custody stack. Signature schemes, distributed signing, hardware, governance and recovery all have to work together.

On 28 July 2026, Silence Laboratories and Ashurst Perkins Coie convened Quantum Computing & Financial Market Infrastructure: A Breakfast Briefing in New York. The gathering brought together executives and specialists from banks, custodians, asset managers and financial market infrastructure providers.

Connecting cryptography with institutional requirements

Jay Prakash and Yashvanth Kondi contributed the Silence Laboratories perspective, alongside participants from the legal, financial and digital asset communities. Yashvanth’s contribution focused on multi-party computation and its place in quantum readiness.

The institutional question extends beyond choosing a replacement algorithm. A migration must preserve the controls that govern who can authorise a transaction, how signing is distributed and how the organisation recovers when a component becomes unavailable.

Designing for a transition

Classical and post-quantum systems will need to coexist during the transition. That makes cryptographic agility and ownership of critical infrastructure practical concerns for teams planning their next architecture.

At Silence, we see distributed signing as part of that broader design problem. The cryptography must fit the operational model, including the institution’s approval policies and continuity requirements.

The briefing was held under the Chatham House Rule. It created space to examine these interdependent choices across technical, legal and institutional perspectives, without attributing private discussions to individual participants.
